Vegan Travel FAQ
Is it hard to travel as a vegan?
It depends on where you go and how much you plan. Major cities in North America, Western Europe, and Southeast Asia are usually straightforward with an hour of preparation. Rural areas and dairy-centred cuisines take more work — that’s what our city guides are for.
What are the most vegan-friendly cities?
Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Portland, and Bangkok consistently rank near the top for options — though the best experience isn’t always the city with the most options. Start with our destinations page.
How do I order a vegan meal on a flight?
Request the VGML meal code at booking and again 24–48 hours before departure. Do not request VLML — it includes dairy and eggs. Bring backup food anyway. Full details in our airline meal codes guide.
How do I say “I’m vegan” in another language?
List what you don’t eat — no meat, no fish, no dairy, no eggs — rather than relying on the word “vegan” alone. Our free language cards cover the full sentence in ten languages, printable for offline use.
What should I pack as a vegan traveller?
At minimum: shelf-stable protein, a reusable container, and your language cards. See the full vegan travel packing list, broken down by destination and trip length.
How do you choose which restaurants to recommend?
Restaurants are visited or directly verified, listed with specific dishes, and re-checked at least every six months. Brands cannot pay for placement. Read our methodology.
How often are guides updated?
Every guide is re-verified on a rolling six-month cycle, and each listing shows its verification date. When something changes between cycles, we fix it and mark the change.
Do you take sponsored placements?
No. Some product links are affiliate links — we only recommend products we’ve tested, and affiliate relationships never affect rankings. See the affiliate disclosure.
